What a ripper of a school this past weekend. We had people travel from Harden,Wombat,Ryde,Mulgoa,Geurie,Forbes,Bega,Nevertire,Copacabana and Yeoval. We had stockmen working mixed properties (cattle, sheep, crop). A roustabout and some city folk that are getting into working their dogs.
What a great bunch of people. All came ready to learn and asked a lot of questions. All dogs where in control and well behaved. Everyone was respectful of each other and encouraging to one another. They was some friendly banter between the Kelpie and Collie owners. All in good fun. We had some rain but that didn’t dampen the spirt.
Gary is such a patience trainer. His knowledge of not just trailing and training but also how stock behave and how they react to certain dogs is often incorporated into what he shows, which is invaluable to the lessons. This is the 2nd time that Gary has been kind enough to do a school for DCs Madra and we are very thankful that he’s happy to come. He was impressed with the changes that we have done to the facilities from the last school. We aim to where possible take on feedback that we get from people.
Now to the photos. Sorry everyone but this fellow was my favorite of the weekend. What a cracker pup. Andrews going to have a ball with this fellow.

Donna and Owen are such welcoming hosts. Felt like family – but the ones you want to see more of. They went beyond expected and we so appreciated it. Each dog has its own potential and character and so enjoyable to see them at work with a stunning vista surrounding. Them roses, rain on the roof, rural retreat. Rejuvenating. Thank you for making Paul’s 50th so memorable. Trudy and Paul. Baulkham Hills Sydney.

“Ardiossan Baudale” – Very comfortable. Flexible hosts, not at all thrown by crossed wires on my turning up a day earlier than expected! Apologies for that guys! You definitely have some trees frogs down near the creek. AND may thanks for our beautiful pup. Borderville Ed – Mr Personality Plus! Can’t wait to get him home to his new family. He looks very eager to begin his new life as a farm dog. Rest assured he will be well loved and cared for, as well as provided with lots of work! Mrs L. McDonald.

Thank you for the school with Gary White, he is a great teacher, able to provide really good clear information at every level. I learned a lot! Your place was beautifully presented with great facilities. Linda Dening
The weather was terrible but that didn’t stop the keen handlers coming to learn new skills and hone up on some old ones.
We had a nice small school of 5 with a mix of handlers from a raw beginner to a experienced person wanting to hone their skills on starting a young dog. There was a real mix of dogs as well from Kelpies to Koolie to Cattle Dogs.
The first day started with an assessment of where each person and their dogs. From the start some issues became obvious. By the end of the day plans where in place to address those problems.
๐For Kip who started the day by leaving the round yard and having a ball running around the paddock. By the end of the day he was working with his handler much better. Was showing some style with the sheep, which gave his young owner some confidence.
๐We had one young man here swearing blue his dog would not back for him. The smile on his face when on the first go up she went and had a ball doing it. Lesson learnt on its all about your position.
๐For the 2 young dogs on their second look at sheep. They started pretty messy, but really improved as the day went on. Gave their handler a good reminder of what he needed to do to keep going forward.
๐I must admit I am not a fan of Cattle Dogs but by the end of the weekend I’ve been won over. They where keen to give what ever was asked of them and so well behaved. Was great to see them working and some good tips where shared for how to improve.
๐The young Koolie had a slow start, not really interested in the sheep in the yard at all. Look out here comes Mindy to lend a hand. Lesson learnt, it helps to have a older dog lend a hand from time to time. By the end of the day the little dog was keen as mustard. Her handler left with a sparked interest in continuing to train her dog with stock.
The second day was a wash out unfortunately. The group will come back for another day to show us how they have improved.
